It is notorious that juries are unwilling to convict, and sometimes absolutely refuse to do so, where, iu their opinion, the law provides a penalty out of proportion to the offence. Magistrates, it appears, arej following suit, and particularly is this noticeable in regard to the licensing law. —Hawera Star.

It is uot Great Britain so much as it is the race instinct that compels us to hold together for weal or woe.
