UNFAIR TREATMENT.
.lust now while Mr Seddon. with l!it- hearty approval of the people, is girding at the War Office, for the very shabby treatment of the colonies in regard to the meat contract, a timely reminder is needed in connection with the way in which this district is being treated by the New Zealand Contintingent authorities. Mr Neale, a Gisboine inspector, has been sent away to the far North to purchase horses, while hundreds of splendid animals under offer in this district are not even to be looked at. Our Auckland correspondent telegraphs that Mr Neale is to go to Whangarei next week to pur-ch.w-u three hundred horses for tiie Contingent. We should like to know why an order was suddenly given to cease purchasing horses in this districtwhile ail officer who is rightly stationed here is sent roaming away up Whangarei way in search of horses. Only about fifty were accepted here, yet it appears that three hundred are to be purchased at Whangarei. There seems to be reasonable ground for commaint against those nearer home than the W T ar Office.
