WALDORF COMPANY v. GISBORNE

A crickht match was played on the Victoria Domain yesterday between a local eleven and a team representing the Waldorf Company. Gisborne batted first, and declared with eight wickets down for 137. The visitors responded with 52. The chief feature of Gisborne’s innings was the bowling of Fitebott and Nightingale. They both kept a fine length, the former breaking back with his arm, while the latter came across from leg. Fitchett secured four wickets for 41 runs, and Nightingale two for 38. J. and W. Gibson took strike and put on 40 runs for the first wicket. V. Gibson was bowled by Fitchett for 16, and J. Gibson was taken in the slips off the same bowler immediately afterwards for 24. Gumming rattled up 15 quickly, and .1. Andrews retired when he hud made 8. 4. Ferris was not long at the wickets for 21, and Fairlio played well for his score of 15 not out. He gave an hard chance in the long' field off his first stroke, which resulted in 4 runs. Shoudun was not out for 8. The innings was declared closed with eight wickots down for 137 runs. Porter opened to Scardon, whom he cleaned bowled with his fourth ball. The wickets fell rapidly. Patey stayed at the wickets a long time for 5, and saw half the team retire before he lost his wicket. Lloyd and Bapty made a brief stand, putting on 20 runs. • Nightingalo and Campbell also batted well. The innings closed for 52. The Waldorf representatives were jubilant at passing the score of the Penguin team on the preceding Saturday. Porter, W. and J. Gibson, Ferris, and Zachariah all secured wickets. The fielding was lifeless. There was a large number of spectators on tbo ground, and the road-way was lined with equestrians. Miss Waldorf was present, and evinced much interest in the game.
