OUR SOLDIERS.
By Telegraph,—Press Association. Auckland, last night. Captain O’Brien, of the A Battery, will command the camp of the North Island Battery of the Ninth Contingent at Te Paka, near Onehunga. Captain O’Brien is to receive a commission in the Ninth Contingent. The enlisting of recruits for the Contingent was resumed to-day. The Auckland section go into camp at the end of this week, and the rest of the sections from the North Island will arrive, most probably, next week.
The members of the Auckland Rocruiting Board have finished examining applicants for enlistment as members of the contingent. There was a great rush of applicants all day, and the demand for places in the Ninth was quite as great as for the Eighth. Between three and four hundred men presented themselves, and the examiners were enabled to make a very satisfactory selection. The physique of most of the volunteers was excellent.
