A Gambling Den.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, last night. The police last night raided a Chinese gambling den in Wakefield street. At a signal the doors were rushed by the detectives. A game of fan-tan was in full swing. The utmost confusion prevailed. A rush was made for the exits, but the Chinamen were met at every point by the police. The banker aud clerk were discovered under the gambling table. Thirtyone arrests were made. A quantity of money and a complete fan-tan paraphernalia were found in the room. The Chinamen were handcuffed in pairs aud marched to the lock-up. The money discovered on them ranged from £5 to £OO. At the Police Court the keeper was ‘fined £2O, aud two assistants £3 each, the others £2 and £1 each.
