Arrived, s.s. Hauroto, from Fiji. News by her chronicles the suicide of J. T. P. Hopkins, Stipendary Magistrate at Lomaloma, who blow his brains out with a revolver. Tho Fiji Times says in connection with the census returns that tho statistics of the aboriginal population have been officially withheld. This is a significant fact, in view of tho kuown decadence of the Fijian race under the present system of administration. The total population other than 8378 Fijians employed on plantations or in domestic service is 26,851, including whites and colored people of various nationalities.
