MR RHODES GOES TO SOUTH AFRICA.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night. Mr R. H. Rhodes, M.H.R., who goes to South Africa as an officer in tho Eighth Contingent, has boen complimented on his decision to do so by many moetinga held m the Ellesmere electorate. Some moetings voted unanimously for loave of absence from his Parliamentary duties, but most left it to himself whethor he resign or not. In any case the feeling seems to bo that on his return tho seat is secured.

At a large and influential meeting, held at Leeston to-day to consider the form of gathering to be held in Mr Rhodes’ honor, on Tuesday evening, a strong committee was appointed with power to act.
