LABOR DISPUTES.
SHIPPING TRADE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, last night. The hearing of the dispute between the Auckland Sailors’ Union and the Auckland Shipowners was taken this morning at the Arbitration Court before Mr Justice Cooper and Messrs L. Brown and It. Slater. The Sailors’ Union was represented by Messrs William Belcher, Secretary of the Dunedin Onion ; J. Kneen Secretary of the Auckland Union ; W. T. Young, the Wellington Secretary. The master shipowners were represented as follows : Messrs W. E. Kennedy
(Wellington, mauager for the Union Steamship Co.), J. F- Eirby (Labor Director for the Union Steamship Company), Charles Bauson and G. Gow] (Northern Steamship Company), James* Dunning (Coastal Steamship Company, E Limited), Malcolm McGregor (McGregor Steamship Company, Limited), J. Parker (S.S. Akaroa), James Stewart (Northern Union Steamboat Company), and W. B. Leyland (S.S. Stella). In opening the case for the Union Mr Belcher said that the Union were asking for an increase all pound of 10s per month in wages, and for overtime to be paid at the rate of Is 6d per hour. They thought a man should have the option of working overtime on shore labor. The case wag adjourned until to-morrow.
