WELLINGTON RACING CLUB’S SUMMER MEETING. SECOND DAY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.)Wellington, last night. There was boisterous weather for tho second day’s racing. A fierce nor’wester was blowing all day, with occasional showers. The course was in fair condition in the straight, but heavy at the back. The sum of £18,096 was put through the machines, being £9,084 behind the corresponding day last year. The results were
January Handicap: Goldenmere 1, Fashion 2, Indian Shot 3. Also started : Redoubt. Fashion was in front on entering the straight, but Goldenmere cut him down in the run home, and won by half-a-length. Time 2.1 f. Div. £1 19s. Electric Handicap : Torowai 1, Te Taiaha 2, Float 3. Also ran: Gold Spur, Ringlet, Rebel, Shrapnell Shell, and Ayrdale. Te Taiaha led until reaching tho distance, where Torowai slipped up on the inside, and won by half-a-length. Tiine 1.31. Divs., £4 2s 6d and £1 18s. W.R.C. Handicap : Tho Shannon 1, St. Michael 2, Cannio Ohiel 3. All started. Shannon was in the van throughout, and, on entering the straight, came away, winning by three lengths. Timo 2.12. Divs., £5 3s 6d and 11s 6d. Juvenile Handicap : Achilles 1, Golden Yein 2, Orloff 3. Also started : Ascension and Apprentice. Achilles led nearly the whole way, winning easily by two lengths. Time 1.16}. Divs., £1 16s and £1 2s 6d. Welter Handicap : Battler 1, Quiltina 2, Fashion 3. Also ran : Motor, The Hempie, Jewel Gun, and Forest Oak. Battler led throughout, and won easily by three lengths. Time 1.33. Divs., £5 3s 6d and £1 Bs.
Wellington Stakes Cruciform 1, Canteen 2, Greek Maid 3. Also started: Optimist, Ringtnan, and Dirk. Won easily at the finish by half-a-length. Time 1.2}. Divs., £1 3s 6d aud £ll4s. Metropolitan Handicap: Indian Queen 1, Glenogle 2, Torowai 2. Also started : Goldspur. Indian Queen led almost the whole way, but in the straight was challenged by Glenogle, who was only beaten by a short neck. Time 1,16}. Div. £3
Is. Hack Handicap : Cure 1, Pure Silver 2, Waitoa 3. All started but Gipsy Jack. Won easily by two and a-half lengths. Time 1.45}. Divs., £lO 7s 6d and £3 17s. The stewards discussed Cure’s running on the first day, but took no action. GORE RACES.
By felegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, last night. For the second day's races at Gore there was no improvement in the weather. The attendance was fair. The totalisator put through £2116, as against £2OS4 tor the same day last year, a total for the meeting of £4502, against £4472 last year. The results were : Mataua Handicap; Hawthorne 1, Belligerent 2, Peerage 3. Black Pool and First Light were scratched. Time, 1.35. Div., £3 7s. Farmers’ Plate : Mercury 1, Bonsor 2, Epic 3. Time. 1.42. Div., £2 12s. Club Handicap Belligerent 1, Bed Banner 2, Ardnarff 3. Scratched : Fulmen. Time, 2.7. Div., £ls 16s. Hurdles : Van Toon 1, Blackpool 2, Seabreeze 3, Scratched : Clinker.
