Lferd Salisbury generally takes his lunch either at the Athenaeum or the Junior Carlton Club. The Athenaeum is a very solornn club, and many Bishops are members. It was a rainy day, and one of Lord Salisbury’s secretaries observed that his chief was starting out for his lunch at the Athenaeum. He rushed for an umbrella and offered it to Lord Salisbury. “ No, no,” replied Lord Salisbury. “ I’ve lost too many in the Athenaeum. I caDnot trust these Bishops.' Some years ago the Prime Minister went into a small barber’s shop in Portsmouth to get his hair cut. The tonsorial artist had evidently recognised his distinguished customer, for when His Lordship passed the shop a day or two after the event be was not a little surprised and amazed to find a placard in the window bearing the following notice : " Hair cut, 3d ; with the same scissors as out Jjord Salisbury’s hair, 6d.”
