Much solicitude is being displayed by certain Southern newspapers concerning Mr Justice Conolly and his seat on the Supreme Court Bench. They predict his early retirement, and are already speculating about his probable successor. But the wish is apparently father to the thought, for those who know Judge Conolly best are satisfied that lie has no immediate intention of retiring. Though lie is now beyond his eightieth year, he considers that lie is as fit for the position to-dav as ever he was, and certainly he looks sturdy and vigorous enough for his years. His mind is fixed on his pension, which is not due yet for three or four years, and until he has become entitled to it, given good health, there is no likelihood of his retirement.—Auckland Obferver4
