r OLD ALAN’S THROAT CUT. if !l (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, last night. ' v An inmate of the Costley Home for Aged Poor was found in the grounds of ' the institution with his throat cut last night. One of the attendants found the man, lying under a tree as though asleep, f and was horrified to find he was bleeding profusely from a wound in the throat. S The mau was Robert Coates, 54 years of 1 age. Dr. King made an examination of : Coates, finding the windpipe almost severed. The man was taken to the hospital in a critical condition. The t officers of the institution are unable to find a knife or other instrument with which the deed might have been committed. Coates was admitted to the Home in October last. He suffered from paralysis for some time, and has been unable to speak.
