England lost eight wickets against Stawell Cricket Club Eighteen for 528 runs. Jessop made 07, Maclaren SO, Jonos 95, Braund 127, McGahoy 101. Jeßsop’a score included four fivers. Woodburn 20. THU USD AY COMPETITION. Tub abovo competition was resumed on Victoria Domain yesterday afternoon under unfavorable conditions. Heavy rain threatened throughout the afternoon, and several light showers fell during tho progress of play. Players evidently had not settled to work again after tho holidays, and many of the regular players were absentees. On No. 1 wicket, Whataupoko, who had a strong team in tho field, added another to their long list of victories by inflicting a crushing defeat on a particularly weak
oloven plaeod in tho fiold by West End tho scores reading 125 to 26. Haworth and Barlow mado a fine stand for the third wicket. They soon collared tho wonk West End bowling, and gave a most attractive display of aggressive cricket. Haworth scored 50, and Barlow’s total was 42. None of tho other Whataupoko batsmen did much. Tho West End bowling calls for no comment. E. Johnson, a Wanganui Collego boy, seoredl 1 for West End, and also did about as well as any with tho ball for his side. H. Ferris and Garrett wore in good form with the ball for Whataupoko, and shared the bowling honors. On No. pitch, City and Kaitihad a fiveaside game, tho former winning by 50 to 36. Gordon Johnstone scored 22 for City, and Colin Fairlio mado a similar number for Kaiti.
Tho Saturday competition will bo rosumod on Victoria Domain to-morrow afternoon, when County will play United, and City meets West End. Considerable interest is being taken in the meeting of the first-named clubs, who lead for the championship. Should United succeed defeating County, they will be levol in i number of championship points rod. The United oloven will be icted on the ground from the following -yers:—Porter, C. Fairlie, McCrodie, worth, Lyttletori, Baker, Gibson, Hill, yrnour, Ferris (2), Gouldsmith (2).
