GISBORNE HOSPITAL.
ANNUAL MEETING OF SUBSCRIBERS. The annual meeting of subscribers to the Gisborne Hospital was held last evening, His Worship the Mayor presiding,. Amongst those present were Messrs W. ' Pettie, C. P. Davies, J. M. Cumming, Finneran, F. Staff, J. McKee, P. Maher, E. Williams, J. A. Harding, and T. A. Coleman. The Mayor moved that Mr A. Dewing be appointed trustee to represent the contributors. Mr C. P. Davies seconded the motion, which was carried. A vote of thanks to the medical superintendent and staff for the capable services which they had rendered was unanimously carried.
Mr Harding, in acknowledging the vote, remarked that during the past year the Nesbitt memorial fund subscribed in aid of the Hospital had come into the trustees’ hands, and had been devoted towards building additions to the female ward, new kitchen, dining-room, etc. Additional improvements had been found necessary, and the expenditure incurred during the year had been more than was anticipated. The trustees were rather short of funds at the present time and would have to appeal to the public for subscriptions. Mr Harding further added that it was the wish of the trustees that subscribers who had not seen the improvements should take the first opportunity of doing so, so that they might be able to judge whether what had been done met with th- i- approval. The Mayor said that with regard to subscriptions to such an institution as the Hospital, the trustees had only to. ask and the public would respond willingly. (Applause). A vote of thanks to the Chairman ter. , tainated the meeting.
