AUCKLAND RACES.

By Telegraph— Press Association. Auckland, last night. Tho Auckland Ilacing Club’s Summer Meeting concluded to-day. the weather being overcast and light showers falling. The attendance was large. The totalisator receipts for the day amounted to .£'17,533, making ,£78,530 for the meeting. The Royal Stakes went to Royal Artillery, who made no race of it, and St. Michael won a good race in the Grandstand Handicap by a length. The Steeplechase was won by Voltigeur 11., and the consistent old grey son of Lionel was loudly cheered as he returned to tho saddling paddock. Following aro the results : Ascot Handicap, 1 mile. 261 Sago’s Balbirnie, Hewitt... ... 1 221 George’s Ilagabrash, Percival ... 2 143 Hyland’s Despatch, Barry ... 3 Also started: 328 The Needle, 545 Materoa, 102 Paul Seaton, and 173 Golden Rose.

Materoa and The Needlo were prominent for a few strides, but along the back Golden Rose took charge, and across tho top stretch was well in advance of Despatch. Balbirnie camo out at the stand and scored very easily by a couple of lengths from Ragabrash, who was three parts of a length in front of Despatch. Materoa was fourth. Time, 1.444. Kelburn dashod to tho lead of affairs when the field were released, and across the top stretch was racing a length in front of Mary Seaton. Mary Seaton looked dangerous at tho Derby stand, but Kelburn continued to hold his own, and beating off a challenge on tho part of Grey Seaton, won by better than two lengths from the latter, who was in turn three parts of a length to the good of Northumberland. Lictitia was the quickest away, but passing the grandstand Sparkling Water was racing a length in front of her. When they drew past the seven-furlong post Tauhei took charge, and along the back was a length in front of Sparkling Water, with Lietitia two lengths away, and then came Nonette. In the run across the top stretch Tauhei died away, and Sparkling Water and Lictitia wore in front as tho straight was entered, but at the Derby stand Nonette came through on tho rails under pressure. At the lawn rails St. Michael shot up on the outsido and won a good ’race from Nonette by a length. Volee, who just beat Sparkling Wate,. .y a nose for third placo, was a length away, the rest of tho field were bunched well up. Time 2.10 J, divs. £3 17s 6d and 17s, totalisator £BSOO. Seventh Royal Stakes, 6 furlongs. 236 Stead’s Royal Artillery, Hewitt ... 1 25 Clifford’s Golden Mere, Pyne ... 2 47 Gordon’s Porirua, Cameron ... 3 Those wore tho only starters. Porirua went to the front at the start, and was joined by Royal Artillery when a furlong had been covered, and the pair cut out the running a length in front of Golden Mere. At the Stand, Royal Artillery drew away and won easily by two lengths from Golden Mere, who had Porirua beaten in the last few strides. Timu 1.16 J. Div. £1 3s. On totalisator, 308. Tho Auckland Steeplechase, about three miles and a half, 524 Ross’ Voltigeur 11., Mitcholl ... 1 360 Hannon’s Rufus, Berry 2 149 Pollard and Sullivan’s Straybird, Morrigan 3 Also started : 872 Nor’west, 644 Dingo, 160 Jack, 54 Kowhai, 650 Princess of Thule.

Rufus was tho quickest to move, but Voltigeur 11. took tho lead over the first hurdle, and ascending the hill was three lengths to the good of Itowhia. Coming down tho hill Voltigeur was leading Princess of Thule, and over the doublo Nor’west’was with the latter. As the hill was climbed for the second time, Voltigeur and Princess of Thule had four lengths’ lead of the field, and thus the | water jump was taken on the last circuit | with Nor’west third, but tho latter died away as they drew round tho back. At tho first post and rails on tho top of tho hill Princess of Thule fell, and Dingo followed suit, and Voltigeur was left to show the way down the hill and into the straight by five lengths. At tho last hurdle Rufus was catching Voltigeur, but the old grey came away, and plodding along, won amidst loud cheering, by six lengths from Rufus, who was a like distance to the good of Straybird ; the rest of the field were distanced. Time, 8.15. Tote, 3413. Divs., £4 7s 6d and £2 2s 6d. Newmarket Handicap, 6 furlongs. 471 Lovett’s Hohoro, Jellings ... 1 103 Chaafe’s St, Olga, Spcakumn ... 2 354 Dudors’ Takapuna, Gainsford ... 3

Alao Started : ’649 Rosella, 387 Glenogle, 261 Formula, 24 Tolstoi, 37 Takapa, 117 Reclaimer, 80 Winsome, 254 Lady Avon, 103 Zealous, 87 Scotty, 76 Hesper, Reclaimer got away in front, and at the cutting was a length in front of Lady Avon, and in tho run across the top stretch St. Olga was a clear length behind tho pair. In the straight, Lady Avon had the advantage, but as the stand was reached Hohoro came with a great rattle, and beat St. Olga by half-a-length, Takapuna a length and a-half away third. Lady Avon was fourth, and Rosella fifth. Time 1.16. Divs., £4 4s 6d and £6 9s. On totalisator, 2953.

Auckland Plate, miles. 603 Stead's Cruciform, Jonos 1 198 P. Chaafe’s Bluejacket, Lindsay... 2 20 Renwiek’s Hippowai, Taylor ... 3 These were tho only starters. Bluejacket was racing on terms with Hippowai as the stand was passed, and round the back the latter had shot his bolt. Cruciform won well in hand by two lengths from Bluejacket. Hippowai was distanced. Time 2.41, div. £1 4s 6d, totalisator 821. Pony Handicap, 5 furlongs. 851 Friedlander’s St. Loanda, Gainsford _ 1 817 Ralph’s Lady Avon, Seeats ... 2 302 Montgomery’s Gladys Rose, Jenkins 8 Also started: 304 Orange and Blue, 104 Ukase, 56 Polly Perkin, 86 Grisette, 349 Mamoa, 67 Annoyed, 90 Pukeori, St Loanda jumped away in front, and made all the running, defeating Lady Avon by a head, Gladys Rose a length away third.
