PERSONAL.
Mr and Mr W. A. Barton left for Auckland by the Mararoa on Saturday. Mr G. Elliott, manager for Messrs Dalgety and Co., returned to Gisborne by the Te Anau yesterday. Mr and Mrs Biddles returned from their trip to England on Saturday morning. Mr Lincoln Bees left for Wellington last evening. Messrs 7\. J. Cox and B. S. Cox returned from Auckland by the Te Anau yesterday. Lieutenant Trotter returned from South Africa on Saturday, and was accorded a hearty welcome home by his many friends.
Private Gouictt, of Wairoa, left Capetown on the 10th for New Zealand, and Sergeant T. T. Porter and Private Bougen, of Gisborne, are passengers by the Aotea, which left Capetown on the 17th inst. - The.. Hon, J. McGowan, Minister of Mines and Justice, arrives in Auckland to-day from Rotorua. ” —■" Miss Ponsford, of Auckland, has gained Pitman’s shorthand speed certificate of 170 words per minute, which is the highest rate attained by any lady in New Zealand.
