EIGHTH CONTINGENT.

FINAL SELECION FOB GISBORNE. Tun Gisborne applicants for the Eighth Contingent were put through their riding tests at Tucker’s Paddock on Saturday, in tiie presence of a large gathering of spectators. The men generally proved themselves equal to the task that was set them, the display of horsemanship being very satisfactory. After the riding tests were completed Majors MeCrcdie and Winter lined the men up, and addressing the returned contingenters said they were accepted 11 without question.” The other nen would be accepted conditionally on : heir passing the medical examination to re held in the dtillshed that evening. Trooper Robert Bussell (Oxford) Two of tiie number provisionally selected could not pass the doctor's examination, and two others were over the standard height. One e ui’d not come up to the chest measurement. The men will be notified when they are to leave.
