CRICKET.

CLUB-BOOM GOSSIP. [Notes by “Biffkr.”] Those wishing to learn a good deal more than they are likely to read of the individual members of Maclaren’s English team now in Australia should have a chat with Mr Woollright. That gentleman hails from Maclaren'3 old county, Lancashire, and he told me, in the course of an interesting chat I had with him the other day, that he attended as many of the big matches as he could at the Old Trafford ground, and had often seen the English captain bat, and had seen all the first-flighters of England play at one time or another. As an instance of tho interest taken in the test matches in England, Mr “Woollright informed me that the report of the fifth tost match played at Melbourne by Stoddart’s first team occupied thirty feet of space in the columns of the leading Liverpool journal. The match lasted five days. I would recommend those desirous of having a chat with a keen cricket enthusiast, who possesses a thorough knowledge of English cricket, to look up mine host of the Record Reign. The Bev. Blamires, playing for the Arawas against Slade’s team at Hamilton, Waikato, on the 14th inst., performed what is probably a world’s record. He either caught or bowled every man on the opposing side in both innings. Tbore are some good men in the Waikato, and Gisborne will bo able to send a team through by rail to try conclusions with them - a couple of centuries hence perhaps ; but Blamires may not bo thero to catch and howl the Gisboruitesin the year 2000 odd.
