No applications were received for the post, of head cook and assistants, so probably some energetic members of the company will exert their prowess in that particular pan. Holiday seekers who intend to spend their season's holiday out of the district will be pleased to hear of the inducement held out by the owners of the s.s. Tangaroa. The fares are to be 7s (id return, to start on December 2d, and include up to January 2nd. The fare is exceedingly cheap, and no doubt will be largely availed of. Very poor nominations have been received for the Caledonian sports, and it is very discouraging to the Committee. The Handicap race having been raised to £2O, and other handicap races in proportion, the committee reckoned on getting good support this year. It is to be regretted that not one nomination has been received from Wuiroa, which does not say much for the energy of our pedestrians here. However, we hope other events on the programme will be better represented, and that a good day will reward the efforts of (he Committee. The 1 lieland concert and variety entertainment should prove an attraction. A good programme has been arranged, and seveixil artists new to the Wuiroa public will perform.
