BIG STEAMER AGROUND.
FIVE MILES OUT OF COURSE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Brisbane, Dec. 22.
The steamer Duke of Devonshire, bound from London to Brisbane, with 16 passengers and 4000 tons of cargo, weut aground on Hunter Keef, near Hannibal Island, Torres Straits, last Sunday. Assistance has been sent. The vessel was i n charge of tinpilot. It is believed that the steamer Penrith, from. Westport, is standing by. Tho point where the vessel struck is five miles out of tho usual course.
