EIGHTH CONTINGENT. DISTRICT ORDERS. Headquarters, Wellington, ltiih December, 1901. THE following has been received and is published for general information GENERAJj ORDERS. In view of the probability of an Eighth Contingent being despatched to South Africa, the following information is published for the guidance and mtoimation of intending applicants : I. General. —Two battalions will be formed consisting of Five Hunched (500) men each, one from North Island and one from South Island. 2. Applications. Officers: Applications to be submitted through officer commanding district at as early a date as possible. Non-commissioned Officers and Men : Applications by letter to bo made to “ The Recruiting Officer Eighth Contingent ” at the the following recruiting centres:— Wellington, Hawera, Wanganui, Napier, Gisborne, Palmerston North, New Plymouth, and Masterton. Applicants should state height, chest measurement, and weight, and also previous military service ; the physical standard is fixed at between the heights of lift 6in and sft lOin ; chest (expanded) 87in; weight not to exceed twelve i Id) stone.
After the Officer Commanding District has appointed the Recruiting Boards (two (2) volunteer officers and a medical officer; a date will bo fixed and pro* visioimliy accepted applicants will be notified by Recruiting 01'lieer to present themselves to him for medical examination and riding test.
