In making the presentation the Chairman said he sincerely hoped tiie children would enjoy their holidays. They could go into the country during their vacation, where, if they looked around them, they would learn many things which would help them afterwards in the school. An opportunity would he afforded by the holidays to improve their physical development in many ways. They had a magnificent river in which to indulge in bathing, and he hoped

they would enjoy their holidays in every respect roost heartily, coming back to the school refreshed in body and mind, determined to attend to their scholastic duties. It was very hard for the teachers if the children did not attend to their lessons, and it was not pleasant for them to think that all their pains were thrown away; therefore he hoped that all would study diligently. He hoped the children would thoroughly enjoy themselves on the occasion, and it ought to be an inducement for them to come to school the first week after the holidays. They had all seen what had been the result of good attendance. Those children who bad attended well had received the most valuable prizes, and if they looked ahead of them they would follow the good example set and attend school regularly. The whole of their future depended on what they learned at school. There were two things the speaker wished to impress on the children which were better than all the talents imaginable. One was the necessity for application in regard to their, studies, and the second perseverance.
