MASONIC INSTALLATION
The installation ceremony in connection with Montrose Lodge took place in the Masonic Hall last evening, when Bro. Thomas llichie, R.W.M.-elect, was installed by Bro. W. McCullough, M.W.P.G.M., of Auckland, assisted by Bro. S.
It. Williams, J.P.M. The investiture of officers also took place. There was a largo attendance of visitors, and the greatest enthusiasm was manifested in the proceedings. An efficient orchestra, under Bro. A. T. Hookey, contributed largely to the success of the evening. The ceremony was of a most impressive character, and an excellent a'ddress was given to the brethren by the Provincial Grand Master, Bro. W. McCullough. The following officers were invested :—I.P.M., Bro. S. It. Williams ; D.M., Bro. K. N. Jones ; S.W., Bro. It. T. Seymour ; J.W., Bro. J. W. Fairlie ; Chaplain, Bro. B. Johnston, P.M.; Treasurer, Bro. J. Whinray, P.M.; Secretary, Bro. J. It. Little, P.M. ; S.D., Bro. A. G. Beere ; J.D., Bro. E. C. Fairlie ; 1.D., Bro. H. Sandlant; Organist, Bro. D. R. DeCosta ; Stewards, Bros. T. Cotter, Boland, J. Morrison, and Sandlant; Tyler, Bro. J. Ilarrop. At the conclusion of the installation the members and visitors adiournod to the lower room, where a
grand spread was provided by Mr J. Craig. Full justice having been done to the good things provided, a couple of hours was spent in social intercourse aud congratulatory speeches, interspersed with musical items. Songs and recitations were given by Bros. DeOosta, Allan, Sawyer, Hookey, McPhee, Burrows, Birrell, R. Johnston, and others. The following toasts were proposed, and duly honored :—“ The King and Craft,” “ The Grand Lodge of Scotland,” coupled with the name of Bro. McCullough ; “ The Worshipful Master,” Bro. T. Ritchie ; “ The Sister Lodges,” proposed by Bro. Whinray, and responded to by Bros. It. Robertson (Turanganui) and Image (Abercorn); “ The Immediate Past Master ” (Bro. S. Williams) ; “Visiting Brethren,” coupled with the names of Bros. Skeet, Richards, and Marshall ; “ The Junior Officers,” coupled with the names of Bros. Seymour and Fairlio; •; The Orchestra,” coupled with the name of Bro. A. T. Hookey ; “ The Ladies,” coupled with the names of Bros. D. DeCosta and A. Robertson. The Tyler’s toast concluded the toast-list, and a pleasant evening terminated shortly after midnight.
