The Fireworks Fizzle.

VERDICT FOR PLAINTIFFS,

By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night.

A caso arising out of tho visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall to Wellington was heard before Judge Edwards and a jury of four this morning, when Blackburn and Smith, of Christchurch, sued the Mayor of Wellington and Councillor Luke, representing the Citizens’ Reception Committee, for £3OO, cost of fireworks provided by plaintiffs for the pyrotechnic display givon in honor of tho Royal visitors.

For tho plaintiffs it was hold that the display had been in accordance with specifications, and that the reason it had not been successful was owing to the hulk from which it was given being moored too far out in the harbor. Plaintiffs were not concerned about the sight afforded, as they were rot consulted about the position in which tho hulk should be placed. The defence to the action was that the display had been a poor one, and that plaintiffs had not brought such expert knowledge, judgment, and experience to bear upon their work as was expected. Tho jury gave a verdict for plaintiffs for .£2OO, with costs.
