CLOSE OF WOOL SALES.

BA telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, Dec. 15. Tire wool sales havo closed. Merinos, owing to strong Continental demand, regained the decline which marked tho opening of tho sales. October rates were generally current at closing. New Zealand scoured were a penny lower, and crossbreds a farthing to a half penny below October rates. Competition was keen excepting for slipes, which wero slow of sale. Itopeha clip sold at O^d. During the sories 197,500 bales wero catalogued, and 100,000 sold for Homo markets, 87,000 for the Continent, 3000 for the American, and 43,000 bales wero held over.

Now Zealand beef, ISO to 2201b5, .fair average quality, ox fores, 211-16 d ; hinds, 3 7-Bd. Copper, spot and three months, 51 7-Bd. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, last night. The Agent-General’s cablegram, dated London, 14th, states :—“ There is a dull sale for all qualities of mutton. Tho stock on hand is heavy. The average price on spot for Canterbury mutton is 3]d ; Dunedin, Southland, and Wellington Meat Export Companies, 3d ; other North Island, 2ijd ; Itiver Plate, 2jjd. There is a better demand for lamb ; tho market is speculative. Canterbury brand, 4jjd ; other brands, 4§d ; Australian, 4,1 d. Beef, quiet ; New Zealand hinds, 3Jd ; fores, 2ijd. Good demand for butter at 104 s to 107 s. Some holders are forcing sales. Argentine is at 110 s. Cheese is firm at 48s. Hemp dull. Transactions are limited. Quotations nominal. Good fair Wellington, T 33 ; January to March shipments, 1130 10s. Tho stock is 221 tons, as against 1650 tons last year. The cocksfoot market is firm. Light stocks of seed are on hand. Tho average price for bright, clean New Zealand, 171 b standard, on spot, is 395.”
