SAD ENDING OF A JUDGE.
Dos Moines, U.S., Oct 20. Judge Marcus W. Fulson, oneo brilliant lawyer and with a good record us a jurist, was taken to the county poor farm on Tuesday last upon his own pica that he bo not sent to gaol with common criminals. The silver-haired veteran, hero of many a hard-fought legal contest, was arrested on a charge of vagrancy by one of a generation who knew him not. He had been drinking and was destitute and ragged. judge Fulson was once in a position to command the votes for any office in the rdft of the people of Polk County. He had abandoned the bench that he might devote his attention to rich clients. He prospered as no other attorney in Des Moines. His prosperity was his undoing. While on the crest of the wave he became a “ good fellow,” from which he progressed rapidly on the downward road to oblivion and disgrace. One by one the corporations took thenbusiness from him and ultimately he was reduced to the extremity of trying an occasional case in the police court in order to eke out a miserable existence. Graduallv ho became unknown to his ' former friends, aud little had been heard “ 0 f him for years until his arrest. His 1 dramatic plea to not be put in gaol has 1 touched the hearts of many old citizens who remember the splendor of his former days.
