THE QUEENSLAND CUP.

Heavy rain fell yesterday, but to-day dawned beautifully fine, and there was a large attendance at the opening day of tbe District Jockey Club’s Summer Meeting. There were large fields in all races, and some of the finest finishes over seen on the Woodville courso were witnessed. Just as the last race was being run, heavy

rain again fell, but the prospects are lino for to-morrow. The following are the results :

Hurdles: Kauwhakaroa 1. Cobra 2, Mangatera 3. Won easily. Time 3.30, divs. £2 8s and HI 10s.

Grandstand Handicap : la 1, Blackwmg 2, Caleita 3. Onutae and Valkyrie were scratched. Time 1.33 2-ssec, divs. ill 11s and 16s.

Woodville Handicap : Queen’s Guardi, Motor 2, Te Pake 3. A most exciting finish ; won on tho post. Tune 2.13 1-5, divs. £3 6s and ill 18s.

Flying Handicap: la 1, Pure Silver 2, Sir Redvers 3. Fleka was scratched. Won very easily. Time, 1.16 1-5, divs. HI 13s and £1 Is.
