The Gisborne Times PUBLISHED EVERY MORNING. GISBORNE, DECEMBER 10, 1901. TOURIST TRAFFIC.

Messages from our Wellington correspondent show that Government are going to a great deal of expense in the matter of developing tourist traffic as far as Rotorua is concerned. Many thousands have already been spent in that quarter, and first-class value is being given for all that has been done. It is a great credit to the Government of the colony, and indirectly must yield a handsome profit. Among the latest ideas is to have an extensive collection of photographs made of the scenery of the colony. That should meet with general approval, if the work is done with due regard to economy. What we would mow urge, as we have done before, is that more attention should he devoted to the Nuhaka district. It would pay the colony well ii the dock of tourists to the Nuhaka were increased as it should he. The Government can find plenty of scope for doing good work there, but apart from expenditure in that way, a great deal could bo done by the artistic advertising of the Springs. We trust that in anything that is done in the way of collections of photography, the Hon. J. Carroll will see to it that Nuhaka is given its share of profitable publicity. There is no question as to the efficacious nature of the baths at Nuhaka. Ample testimonials have been received of their curative properties, and the more tourists who go there, the greater will be the influx each vear.
