TARANAKI SHOW,

Now Plymouth, last night. For the Taranaki Agricultural Show there was glorious weather and u record attendance, approaching three thousand. The gato money .vas J 6125. Horses were fairly well represented, especially in hackneys and draughts. In the latter class A. Brewer showed two grand animals, obtaining four first prizes and a champion. F. Marson obtained champion for colt. There was a largo entry of ponies, many of merit. Weight-carrying hacks were of a good class. Sergeant Darnell carried off the prize for the best troop horse ridden by a • troopor. Cobs were well represented, Southey, baker, taking first prize. Dr Lethara secured first for weight-carrying hacks and best pony hack. In the leaping competition the entries were about the average merit, except the ponies. There was only one good competitor in the latter, Miss Skinner’s Brownie, cleverly ridden by the young owner. Buggy horses and ponies were both of good class. Cattle as a whole, wero weak, with the exception of Jerseys and Ayrshire, the formerly being particularly good, especially in young stock, while the latter were a very-even class, -particularly the exhibits from E. Olsen’s Estate, and A. C. Johnstone had some good animals in, those of Humphries and Honeyfield Bros, being the chief exhibitors. In fat cattle W. Bayly I and Honeyfield Bros, had some good j stock. Dairy cows made a poor show. In sheep there were very few entries, J. Salway securing most of the prizes. There were only two or three entries of pigs. Several dogs wero entered, but with one or two exceptions, they wero not of much merit. There was a large exhibit of dairy produce. Mr Kinsella judged this class. The Lovell and Christmas trophy was won by the Maketawa factory (G. L. Johnston, Manager), Omata second, Stratford third, Tarata fourth. Tikorangi would have been second, but was disqualified for a breach of the rules. There wore sixteen entries for the Society’s trophy for separate exhibits, which was also won by Maketawa, Tarata second, Stratford third. Maketawa also won the special prize for best box of butter for export. In cheese, Biversdale took first, and the Crown Dairy (Woodvillc) second. The judge was of opinion that tne majority of exhibits in this class were very creditable. He was more than pleased with the improved quality, the successful men being those giving attentiou to improved methods of ripening. In hams and bacon, the Taranaki Bacon Factory was the only exhibitor, but had a splendid collection, which was greatly admired.
