A Cheap Advertisement.

[by TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, last night. The Manawatu Railway Company for some time have been contemplating tho replacing of tho Belmont viaduct with a more substantial structure. It is a wooden bridge spanning a deep ravine some seven miles from town, and is 160 ft in height. The first idea was to fill in the gully with earth, but it was found that the cost would be AT5,000 to £16,000. Having heard of the smart work turned out by tho American company which built the bridge over tho Atbara in quick order, the directors sent a description of what they wanted, and received complete and wonderfully exact drawings for a steel viaduct, calculated to a nicety, with an intimation that the structure would he ready within a fortnight of receiving tho cable ordering it, and it would be landed in Wellington duty paid. The cost is less than iUOOO, and tho directors have decided to accept the offer.
