WAIROA NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

A meeting of the Finance Committee of the Huramua Mounted Biffes was held on the 26th inst., Captain Milne Thomson presiding. The company was shown to be in a sound financial position. The balance from the late ball was £l3 10s 9d, which was very acceptable. It was decided to have the camp to be held on the 4th January in Mr Powdrell’s windmill paddock, adjoining the range. Tenders are to be called for the supplying of provisions, forage, and straw for bedding, to be due by the 10th of December. Tenders are to be called for the privilege of holding the cantcon for the week. Quarter master Sergeant Evans, of the East Coast Coast Mounted Rifles, was present, and gave some very useful information regarding the ways of arranging the camp. At a meeting of the Wairoa County Council, held on the 27th inst., for the election of a chairman, Mr Powdrell (the late chairman) was proposed, but declined the honor. Mr W. A. Neale, of Waihi, was unanimously elected chairman for the ensuing term. From what I can gather the appointment is a very popular one. Mr Caughly, assistant master of the Wairoa school, has beon appointed headmaster of the Takapau school. His many friends will oe sorry he is leaving the district, but while regretting his departure we must congratulate Mr Caughley on his advancement.
