CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

RESOLUTIONS ADOPTED,

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christchurch, last night.

At tho quarterly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce the following resolutions were passed : In the opinion of the Chamber it is desirable that steps bo taken immediately by Government in the direction of arranging reciprocal Customs tariff concessions with the Australian Commonwealth and Canada, and that a deputation wait on Sir Joseph Ward on Tuesday in furtherance of this end ; tho same deputation to draw the attention of tho_ Minister of Railways to tho charges levied on goods and passongers between Christchurch and Lyttelton, which arc higher than charged in any other lino in the colony. That the Minister of Marino -ho urged to modify the present regulations in regard to tho adjustment of compasses on colonial trading vossels, and tho Chamber suggests that tho Mercantile Marino Superintendents at each port bo authorised to waive the necessity for specially swinging vossels for adjustment in cases where tho compass record books kept by masters are submitted for inspection when required, and are approved by such superintendents. That Government bo asked, in fulfilment of a promise made ten years ago by Mr Ballanco, to build a safe for explosives in tho vicinity of Christchurch. In regard to tho Christ-church-Lytteltou lino charges, Mr Laurenson, M.H.R., said that the users of the line paid .£10,700 per annum more than the Port Chalmers line which, after Lyttelton, is the dearest in the colony.
