THE WILKINS CASE
VERDICT OF NOT GUILTY

The trial of Dr Wilkins on a charge of manslaughter has concluded. The prisoner called evidence to show that the woman he was alleged to have operated upon did not come to his surgery on the day stated.
The jury, after two hours’ retirement returned a verdict of not guilty. (Special to Times.)
Auckland, last night,
Doctor Wilkins, conducting his own case, did so in such a manner as to give annoyance to Judge Conolly. “ I will have to order some one to conduct your case who knows how to do so,” remarked His Honor to prisoner. “ I nover saw any case so disgracefully conducted. It is most abominable. You seem to think you are privileged to insult the witnesses, insult me, and waste the time of the Court. T have seen many low ruffians in that dock cross-examining witnesses, but never have I seen one cross-examine a witness so oadly as you.” The ugei doctor, summing up, appealed to the j ur l o carefully consider the evidence a “ rO, tollable men, stating that he had her u s ‘ dented to degradation, mental trouble. im .d his practice ruined.
