EDUCATION BOARD.
I Special to Times.] Napier, last night. Mr Hill, in regard to the complaints made against the teacher at Makauri, stated he had found most of them were of little importance, but if the committee and teacher could not work amicably together it might be advisable to arrange for a transfer of the teacher. On the motion of Mr McLernon, it was decided to arrange for an exchange of teachers in such cases, and Mr Westall undertook to draw up up a scheme. On the motion of Mr Westall, it was decided to request the Borough Council to assist the Board in'seeuring tho erection of technical school buildings in Napier. Te Karaka.—Application for a small school deferred. Ormond School. —Mr Hill said there was much that was commendable about the school, but lie regretted to say that during tho whole of his experience he had never been so grossly insulted as by Mr Spurred, who had- told him that ho and the whole Board could “go to blazes.” The state of the upper division did not warrant the promotion of pupils.—The Chairman stated that Mr Spurrcll’s engagement would terminate shortly. Gisborne : Committee to be informed that the Board would not grant an addition to the staff on tfie ground of increased attendance, but would endeavor to make provision before re-opening after the holidays. A new school is to bo erected at Whataupoko near Mangapapa stream, as recommended by Mr Hill. The Board adhered to its former resolution relative to new school books. Tho action of the Chairman of the Maraetaha Committee in accepting a tender for works was approved, the amount being .£290 10s. Matawhero : Application for a teacher's residence held over. Morere: Application for a new fence and shelter shed held over. It was decided that, in view of the urgency of further school accommodation at Danncvirke, Tolago Bay, lvumeroa, and other places, the Department bo approached to have tho building grant for the ensuing year considerably increased to enable the Board to meet the educational needs of the district.
