Supreme Court.

[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Dunedin, last night.

The criminal sessions of the Supreme Court commenced to-day. His Honor’s charge was very brief. There are twelve prisoners, for five cases of theft, four of assault, and two of assaults on girls under lfi. Benjamin Barker, aged 37, for theft of £lO at Kosburg, was sentenced to six weeks’ hard labor ; Charles Tyrell, aged 28, for theft of jewellery from the Pisa Hotel, was sentenced to one month’s hard labor. George Lee, aged 65, pleaded guilty to charges of daylight housebreaking. lie had a very bad record. The prisoner said he never served a sentence m New South Wales in his life. The statement that he had was nothing but a pack of lies. He demanded a remand until the New South Wales authorities were brought over. His Honor said his remarks did not affect the conclusion that the prisoner was an old hand at crime, and he was sentenced to live years' hard labor. Henry Kelly, aged 20, for breaking and entering, was given six months probation. In the divorce case Orr v. , Orr, tue Judge granted a decree nisi, to be made absolute three months hence. Later.—At the Supremo Court Henry Kelly, who pleaded guilty to breaking and entering, was admitted to probation. Chas. Watson, for stealing a Gladstone bag. tweed suit, etc., at Oatnaru, received twelve months’ imprisonment, to commenced at the end of the present sentence for vagrancy. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty in the case of John Henry Gooda'll, charged with stealing six head of cattle.
