Sergeant Petersen u at the present time one of the wonders ot c.io war. You will recollect him as a trooper 1 who went to South Africa with the Third Contingent, lie was captured early in the campaign, escaped, and after exciting adventures was shot by a British outpos. just as lie reached the lines. He was invalided home after this, and one would have supposed that he would havesct.lcrt down to a juiet life, hut when the Seventh Contingent was formed lie was amongst them, and returned to the seat of war. He iought his way into prominence, and in his last action was shot by the enemy. The bullet struck, him in the chest, passed through the lung, through the covering of the heart, and out under his arm. He W as in the saddle at the time, and internal bleeding rendered him unconscious, hut two of his comrades supported him on his horse until out of the zone of tire. Then he went into the hospital, was patched up. and comes back to the colony weak and ill, but as full of pluck as ever, and on the high road to recovery.
