PICKLE MAN.

ANOTHER CASE OE DECEPTION. (Special to Times.) Wellington, last night. Matrimonial contretemps appear to be in the air just now. Following closely 1 upon the experience of the engineer who wooed, won, and then ran away (as reported in the Times) comes the story of a bagman and a barmaid. The lady in the case was accustomed to beam brightly on gilded youths who frequented a local bar, when a commercial traveller, representing, it is said, a Southern firm, came upon the scene, and laid insolent siege to her susceptible heart, and she capitulated. After the manner of some of his kind he swore he would be true, and the assertion is made that as a result of lucky speculations together during carnival week in Christchurch the lady’s trusting nature permitted her to hand over winnings, amounting to some fifty pounds, to his care. Then they parted, ho coming on to Wellington, ana departing immediately for Australia, in company with, it was afterwards ascertained, a wife and family, hitherto kept strictly in the background. Can all fickleness be charged to womankind after this ?
