DISAPPEARANCE OF BRIDEGROOM ELECT. ANXIETY OF JIIS FRIENDS. (Special to Timks.j Wellington, last night. All tho elements of modern romance ’.eve contained in a story which was circulated In the city this morning. It was something to this effect, that a wedding party had assembled in a local church. Bride and bridegroom, parson and guests, all was in readiness for the tying of tho nuptial knot, when the bridegroom, it was said, discovered that he had forgotten the ring, or some other important requisite. 110 left the church to recover that which I was lost, but failed to return. After waiting a reasonable time the bridal party instituted a search, and it was discovered that tho police were also on the track of tho bridegroom for reasons of another kind. Tliis was tho story as told by the man in the street, but enquiries in tho proper quarter prove that rumor is once moro a lying jade, and that instead of a romance there may be a tragedy underlying tho affair. It is true there was to have been j a wedding, but tho parties never reached a church. Tho bridegroom, a young engineer in a good position, professed con* tontment with his lot in life up till last Friday night, when ho suddenly disappeared from his accustonod haunt, leaving no trace of his whereabouts, or word as to j whether liis absence is accidental or in* j tcntionaly. Tho occurrence was reported to the police this morning, and they arc now instituting search for him, not- as a missing bridegroom who has done his country a wrong, but as a citizen causing anxiety to his friends.
