Agricultural Shows.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Palmerston North, last night. The Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Show started to-day. Tho weather was fine, but windy. There was a good attendance for the first day. Keen interest was taken in the judging of sheep and cattle. In Shorthorns the Mount Herbert estate exhibit, Contingent, was adjudged tho champion bull, and Archdeacon Williams’ Duchess oi Connaught was selected as the champion cow. In Hereford cattle, Mr J. Stuckey’s Diamond Jubilee took the championship, and Mr J. Stuckey’s Amethyst was champion cow. Mr J. Stuckey was ,the principal winner in this class. Lincoln sheep: Mr J. M. Wilkie’s Lord Bobs secured the championship, and Mr R. Bremer was the exhibitor of the champion ewe. Messrs Nelson Bros, and Mr W. A. Beecroft were the principal winners in Shropshire Downs, and Mr J. Stuckey in Southdowns. Mr Raynor was the most successful in Hampshire Downs. Wanganui, last night. The entries for the Agricultural Show constitute a record for the colony, totalling nearly 5000, and they are likely to be increased. The classes at the show will comprise: Horses 603, cattle 195, sheep 387, poultry and dogs 437, home industries 611, and implements 375. The others are made up by extra exhibits iff cooking competitions. As many as 60 and 70 entries have been received in single classes. Timaru, last night. The thirty-sixth annual show of the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Asso,riation opened this morning. The weather was fine, with a cold breeze blowing most Df the day. The show promises to be a very successful one in every' way, and tho mtries exceed those of last year by 60. ro-day was devoted to the judging of iheep, of which there was a creditable ihow, English Leicesters and merinos icing the best represented classes, with iJorder Leicesters next.
