ONE MAN KILLED—OTHERS INJURED. [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Sydney, Nov. IS. A terrible explosion of gas occurred at the new workings of the Bur" >od colliery, near Newcastle. Another named Patterson was hopelessly injured. Several others received slight injuries. Owing to the excellence of the ventilation, no effect was produced by the after damp.

ANOTHER DEATH.

THE UNDERGROUND MANAGER INJURED. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright Received Nov. 14, 0.56 a.m. Sydney, Nov. 18. Patterson is dead. A third man, named Champion, is in a serious condition. Mr Brock, underground manager of the colliery, visited the spot a few minutes before the explosion took place. He was with two other men swept along the shaft. Mr Brock sustained some nasty cuts on the head and had a severe shock. The Others received slight injuries. All the lights were extinguished. There was considerable excitement at the tirno. A rescue party quickly arrived.
