A telegram received from Auckland yesterday states that the Barrier Reefs return is £221, and Tairua Broken Hills £366.

By instructions from Wellington, Dr Williams yesterday made a health inspection of the passengers and crew on tho Waikare.

His Honor Judge Batham returns from Wellington on Saturday morning, and will hoid a sitting of tho Native Laud Court on tite following Monday. Messrs W'yllie and Mason hold their usual sales of produce, furniture, etc., tomorrow instead of on Saturday, on account of the holiday.

At -hie meeting of the creditors of Morrison Bros, yesterday, one creditor, Mr 0. B. Hubble, made the generous offer of £'5U tow artls guaranteeing the compromise offered.

A meeting of the Gisborne Tent No. 5-1, i.0.R.. S.C.. was held last evening, Bro. M. G. Nasmith, jun., presiding. A lot of routine business was transacted, one new member was elected aud three more proposed.

The Magistrate's Court was occupied nearly the whole of yesterday with the case of H. N. Watson v. John Wall. Evidence was concluded, and the Magistrate reserved his judgment. The case of Porter v. Macdonald and l’airlie was adjourned until Wednesday next.

Alexander, the Australian Blondin, assisted by La Suer, gave their very clever high wire and trapeze exhibition last night in Grey street. At eight o’clock Blondin appeared in a spangled uniform, thirty feet high, and went through a first-class entertainment, commencing by marching forward and backwards. He stood on his head, balanced on a one logged chair, walked with feet encased in largo baskets, and also gave a first-class trapeze exhibition on a trapeze suspended under tho wiro. He afterwards gave a double trapeze performance, assisted by La Suer, and concluded tho night’s entertainment by riding on a large bicycle wheel to and tro in a blaze of fireworks. At the conclusion of each act tho large audience showed their appreciation by loud applause. Blondin appears at the same place every night this week in a new programme. The monthly meeting of the Gisborne School Committee was held last evening, when the following members were present: Messrs A. F. Matthews, Brown, Sawyer, Hookey, Graham, Morgan, Humphreys, and Capt. Winten The monthly report from tho headmaster was of a most satisfactory nature, and showed that the attendance at the school during tho month had been as high as 740, whilst the average attendance was 720. Some discussion took placa with regard to insufficiency of teachers at tho school, and it was decided to apply to the Board for anothor assistant teacher. A communication was received from the Board with regard to the application for a side school at Whataupoko, pointing out that the petition was not in order, and asking for further information. Tho Committee, who are unanimous in supporting the proposal for a side school, decided to supply the Board will all information they required. Other routine business was transacted and a number of accounts passed for payment.

A meeting was held in the Waorcnga-a-hika Hotel-on Tuesday evening by Mr Oscar Fisher, organising agent for the Farmers’ Union. There was a fair attendance, though some of the leading farmers were conspicuous by their absence. Mr W. D. McClure was voted to the chair, and, having introduced Mr Fisher, called upon him to address the meeting. Mr Fisher gave an ablo address, combatting successfully the idea that seems to be prevalent that tho Association was being promoted with the object of lowering the wages of farm laborers, and that it was conservative in its nature. All who obtain their living from the soil, farm laborers included, and owners of ground however small tho area, wore welcome to join. On tho motion of Mr A. McKenzie, seconded by Mr H. Lougher, it was unanimously resolved that a Union be formed in that locality. A meeting was also hold by Mr Fisher in the Waimata Valley Hall on Monday evening. Mr Bellerby presided, and, after emphasising the need there was for combination amongst the farmers, called upon Mr Fisher to lay before the meeting tho objects of the Union. The speaker received a very patient hearing, after which Mr H. Kenway proposed that it was desirable that those present who were not already members be enrolled, and that the district be canvassed with a view of holding another meeting on November 19 to duly form a branch of the Union. The motion was seconded by Mr H. Lysnar, and carried. Mr A. Bellerby was appointed secretary.
