For the first day of the Auckland Facing Club’s Spring Meeting, the weather was fine, and the attendance good. The sum of £6976 was passed through the totalisator during the day. The Guineas were won with ease by Nonette, who was installed a warm favorite. The Welcome Stakes went to Idas, who fought out a finish with Northumberland, but scored by a neck. The City Handicap resolved itself into a contest in the run home between Beddington and Bluejacket, and resulted in a victory for j the latter by haii'-a-length. Hoiinvbrook was quickest to move, and showed Jlalbirnie the way down to the six-furlong post, where Highlander took charge, and placed a gap of a length between himself and the field, till the straight was reached, and he looked all over a winner. But he was tackled by Blairearrig in a game manner at the lawn rails, and a struggle to the post between the pair resulted in a verdict lor Blaircirrig by a short head. Glasgow' w;ts first away, followed by Nonette and Scotty, only to give place to the hitter, who was a length clear of Crecy when a furlong had been left behind, and in the run down to the half-milo post Glasgow and Crecy elosed up, and as they settled down for the run across the top stretch Nonette was seen to be making his way through on the inside, and although Scotty was first round the home turn the favorite was soon in the van, and drawing out won easily by about 2.1 lengths from Scotty, who was in turn a couple of lengths to the good of Sparkling Water. Idas was the lirst to show in front, and through the cutting was just in front of Spalpeen aml'Northiimberlaud. Idas was still m charge as they swept past tho half mile post, but as the distance was rounded Melbourne was momentarily in the van, but once in the straight Idas and Northumberland sorted themselves out, and fought out a finish from the lawn rails, which resulted in Idas securing a short neck verdict. Camiongaie led to the turn into the straight, but passing the main stand Princess of Thule took charge, and as they drew along the bottom stretch was a length to the good of Cannongate and Kegaiia 11., who were together, then came Cavaliero and Nor’-west some lengths away. Through the cutting Kegaiia 11. was in front, and Cavaliero was seen to be .-losing up as the halt-mile post was reached. At the last hurdle Kegaiia 11. was leading Cavaliero. and lauding saiely over the obstacle held his opponent safe in the run to the post, and scored by three lengths. St Olga, carrying the lickl along at a merry pace, maintained her 2 lead to the straight, but when the Hold opened out for the run home Beddington came through in great style, and was gamely tackled by Bluejacket at the lawn i rails, but disputing every inch of the ■■ ground Mr Nathan’s gelding won by half a length from his opponent. The pair were in front till the straight was entered, when the field bunched up, and a great race to the post went in favor of Hesper, who shot up in the last four strides, and snatched a victory from Tauhei by half a length, Doctor weil up third. Time, lmin 17-lsec. Divs., Hesper Xb 7s bd, Tauhei XI 13s 6d: totalisator 1020.

Christchurch, last night. The Canterbury Jockey Club’s Metropolitan Mooting was continued to-day at Uiccarton. The weather was tine, though a strong north-west wind made matters rather unpleasant for the public. The attendance was good. The course was hard and dusty. Bcsults : Suburban Hurdles, once round and a distance : Iluku, 12.0, 1 ; The Hempic, 9.8, 2 ; Dundee, 11.11, 1!. Also started : Boiler 10.8, Vulcan 9.8, High Peak 9.0. Won by a head, four lengths between second and third. Time, 3.;1 2-5. Divs., £2 0s and £1 10s.
Spring Handicap, 4 furlongs : Vladimir, 7,0, 1 ; King Stork, 7.10, 2 ; Ascension, 7.10, 3. Also started : Greek Maid 8.10, Sherlow and lmperator 7.9, Rajah, Turgineff, and Ilamua 7.6, Ora 7.1, Lady Boslyn, Heroism, Damurska, and Sachedin 7.0. Won by a bare length, a neck between second and third. Time, 18 2-5. Divs., £-7 19s 6d and 16s.
