WELLINGTON SPECIAL.
INSPECTION OP PASSENGERS.
(Special to Times.) Wellington, last night. Among the “slaughtered innocents” of tho Parliamentary session on Monday night was the Public Health Act Amendment Bill, which was intended to provide machinery for dealing with oversea passengers who refuse to submit themsolves for examination by the Health Officer. Tho necessity for some compulsory provision has made itself evident in the recent case of a Monowai passenger, who, through tailing to appear at tho appointed hour, raised tho ire of the Health Officer for the port, and ho left the ship, which was consequently delayed for several hours. The withdrawal of the amending Bill was evidently an oversight, and it is now stated that an effort will be made to got it through before Parliament adjourns.
HEALTH REPORT.
The first- report of the Public Health Department is ready for presentation to Parliament, and will bo laid on the tablo of tho House within a day or so. I understand that it will outline a scheme of the futuie proposed operations of tho department, and tho duties allotted to its officers. It will embody suggestions for the treatment of consumption, and precautions to be adopted generally for making the colony sweet _ and healthy. Proposals for the establishment of a sanatorium in tho colony for the treatment of consumption will bo the subject of a special report by tho chief Health Officer to the Government.
A PITIFUL CASE,
A fortnight ago a poor old body, Sarah Glenn, was accidentally discovered underneath the flooring of a disused buildin- in the business part of the city. She had apparently crawled under for shelter from tho weather, which was bad at the timo, and remained there, unable to got out for five days and nights. Some of the floor* ing boards had to be pulled up to extricate her, and she was removed to the hospital, where she died to-day.
RELEASED.
The scarlatina patients from the Gothic, who were isolated on arrival here in a building originally intendel as a plague hospital, have been discharged, cured, and forwarded on to their destination—Auckland.
