KAITI APPEAL.

Mi: E. J. Cutusr writes :—Referring to the appeal case of Tucker v. Haiti Road Board, 1 cannot understand why there should be any surprise at the verdict of the Apaeal Court. On the division of the two Boards an enquiry was made as to wha; part of the interest and sinking fund on the special loans the Titirangi Board should pay to the Haiti Board. An award was made that a certain sum should be paid therefor—a small sum it is admitted, but, small, because the arbitrators considered that the severing Board had received practically no benefit from the special loans. The Act declares that such inquiry and award is final. The Haiti Board, however, chose to ignore the award, with the result you know. The lender or mortgagee is in no way affected, even it the original Board were severed anl divided twent-v times.

i To the Editor of the Times.) Su. —Mr Chrisp may be an able lawyer—-iucc-ed I think even the suffering ratepayers may lift their sorrowful heads to co'graiuiate him on the able way in which he pulled the Haiti appeal case through on behaii of his client, Captain Tucker; but when he rushes into print, and says he cannot understand v.hy there shculd be any surprise, i, as one affected, beg leave to express mV surprise. I do not pretend to know whose fault it is, or to cast blame on anyone, but 1 hereby express my amazement at the way in which one set of ratepayers can coolly leave another set in the lurch. That is how the position presents itself to me.—l am, etc., Inieresteu Fuieevvek,
