Wellington, last night. While the Tarawera was off Kaikoura yesterday, on the way to Wellington from Lyttelton, the spindle of the circulating pump broke, and the vessel was delayed two or three hours until a new rod could be fitted.
SEAMEN’S UNION
The dispute filed by the Wellington section of the New Zealand Branch of the Australasian Federated Seamen's Union will come before the Conciliation Board next week. The principal points in the Union’s demands are that the wages per month be : A.B.’s, trimmers, and lamp, trimmers, ,£7 ; firemen and greasers, j 69 ; A.B.’s, trimmers, and boatswains working six-hour watches, -I'J: donkeymen, greasers, and firemen working six-hour watches, A'lo : first-class and second-class ordinary seamen, Tfi and £-1 respectively. There are also demands for overtime and holidays.
