A BARQUE ASHORE,
By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, last night
The Italian barque Antioco Aceame, Captain Mono, was towed to sea front Burt Chalmers this morning for Timaru. As only a moderate breeze was blowing she seemed likely to make a fair trip. A telegram was received from John lloss, farmer, Shag Point, stating that the vessel was ashore at Kartigc. Later on a telegram came to hand from the captain to send immediately a tug with a powerful pump. The Antioco is aground on Kartige beach. No further details tire to hand. It is surmised that the barque must have struck a reef, fund that the captain thought it advisable to beach her. The Plucky will leave for Shag Point at daylight. The vessel had been chartered by the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company to load at Titn tint. The beach on which tho Antioco has gone ashore is sandy and clear of rocks, so that if ft gale does not spring up there should he a good chance of getting her oil'. A wire from the captain, received to-night, says that if there is good weather salvage is possible.
