HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.
Tiik monthly meeting of the above was field last evening, when the following membors were present : Messrs J. W. Nolan (chairman), J. A. Harding, J. Warren, It. Johnston, and E. P. Joyce.
The Inspector - General of Hospitals wrote with regard to the proposed erection of an isolated hospital on the Hospital grounds. l)r. McGregor stated that he was considering the question, and would communicate with the Trustees later on. The Chairman said that he hud spoken to Mrs Neill, Assistant Inspector of Hospitals. who was visiting the district, and she expressed file opinion that the isolation war! should be as far apart from the Hospiial as possible.
The Secretary of the Charitable Aid Board wrote stating that a committee consisting of Li is Worship the Mayor and Messrs Lystiar and Hepburn, had been appointed to confer with a committee of the .Hospital Trustees to consider the 'question of ways and means in connection with the erection of an isolated hospital, and to take such steps as may be considered desirable in the matter, in accordance with the proposal made by that Hoard in a previous letter. The Chairman said he understood that ways and means were already found by the Charitable Aid Board. Ho did not see what could bo done until a reply was received from Dr. McGregor, it was decided to await Dr. McGregor’s decision before the committee was called together. The Napier Hospital Hoard wrote stating that they considered the time had arrived when a hospital for the special treatment of cancer cases should be erected in one of the large centres, and they asked tiie co-operation of the Gisborne Board in the matter. On the motion of the Chairman, it was decided to support the proposal. The treasurer reported that the credit balance on September 23th was T 750 Ss Id. The receipts during the month were : Patients’ fees ,l - 32. subscriptions X'G Is, rent At 11s. District Board requisites £IOO. The disbursements amounted to £350 18s 3d, leaving a credit balanco at date of X'547 2s Id. Accounts amounting to .1122-1 18s 3d were passed for payment. The monthly report showed that thore were 23 patients at present in tho hospital, twenty-live had been admitted during the month and 21 discharged, and there had been one death. Miss Laird wrote tendering her resignation as charge nurse at the Gisborne Hospital. Mrs It. N. Jones wrote complaining of the manner in which the children of a patient in the hospital had been treated bv the Matron.
Tlie letter provoked considerable discussion, Ml* Joyce contending that tho matter shouid be enquired into by the Trustees, lie stated that the daughter of the patient referred to bad beeu informed that she must "remove her mother from tho Hospital, as she was a more fit patient i'or the asylum than the former institution. Mr Joyce'further alleged that a number of residents of Gisborne in the past had been committed to tho Auckland Asylum on the certificate of two medical men, when in reality there was nothing wrong with them.
On tho motion of the Chairman, it was decided to refer tho complaint to the Visiting Committee, Messrs Ilarding and •lolinston. who were requested to afterwards call a meeting of tho Board if they considered it necessary. Air Joyce moved an amendment that the matter should be investigated by a committee consisting of Messrs Harding, Warren, Johnston, and the mover. The amendment was not seconded, and Mr Joyce gave notice of the following motion, '■ That a committee be appointed to inquire into the complaint contained in Mrs Jones letter."
