ANGLICAN CHURCH AND LIQUOR.
OTAGO SYNOD DECLARES FOR STATE CONTROL.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, last night. Tho following resolution was passed at jhc Anglican Synod to-night: 4. “That in tho opinion of this Synod the retail traffic in alcoholic liquors as at present conducted is in many respects unsatisfactory.
2. “ That the total prohibition of alcoholic liquors in the colony is irrational, and likely to cause more harm than good.
3. “ (a) That the time has arrived when those who arc interested in temperance reform on moderate lines should have a common platform upon which to combine ; (h) and that the transfer of all the profit from the retailer to tho State or municipality seems to he the best method yet suggested for accomplishing such reform.
I. “ That a League with the object of educating public opinion in the direction of reform on the above lines ho formed, with branches in all part of the colony.”
