SOME SHARP SKIRMISHES AND MUCH BLOODSHED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, Oet. 20. Lord M"thuc: reports that Delarev and Kempt, eree; ing through, a thick bush, attacked Colonel Votidonop's column oil the Elth, at the Great Merieo river, exhibiting great determination. They were repulsed after severe lighting, leaving forty dead, including Commandant Guisteri'-'.-ysen. The Boers captured eight waggons. Two British officers and twenty-six men were killed, mid live* ollieers and fifty men were wounded. All the defenders showed great gallantry. Thirty-seven casualties occurred amongst the Fourth Battery of Field Artillery and an escort of twenty Northumberland
Fusiliers. In a skirmish which occurred at Smithfield two British were killed and ten wounded. Four British officers and three men were wounded during Henry’s attack on Koffvfontein.
