The captains signalled the gunboat Partridge, which shelled and dispersed the enemy. Tiie bank balances of a number of burghers still in the field have beeu attached, in pursuance of Lord Kitchener’s recent proclamations. Renter's Agency reports that, at the instance of Great Britain, the Government ot the Netherlands have given the Dutch Consul-General at Pretoria indefinite leave of absence for assisting Brockstiia. The Bishop of Hereford, Canon Gore, and others have appealed to tho Government to remove all Boer concentration camps to healthier seaside places. Two prominent rebels in Vryburg district have been sentenced to ton years’ transportation for serving with commandos. Corporal \V. «J. Byrne, was accidentally killed, and Private Thomas Crawford severely wounded at Goodgevondcn. belli belonging to the Now Zealand Mounted. Colonel Benson, on the 22nd, surprised a laager at Triekarsfontein. capturing 97. He repulsed a heavy rearguard attack by Grobclaar’s and Era-nuns’ commandos at Vzcrvarkfontcin. Colonel Kerry expelled LKuiwhamU’s commando from a s* e g position at Kotlyfontcin, and is now pursuing them. Major Holmes' column captured 40 Boers at Doornkop, and Golonel Pilcher 27 at Caledon river.
CASUALTIES TO NEW ZEA LANDF.KS.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wellington, last night. The Government are advised that Cor - porai W. ,1. Byrne, of the Seventh Contingent, whose mother resides at Christchurch, died at jieimdcvoiiden on October 20rd from a gunshot wound in the chest; also, on October 24th, dames Crawford, of tho Seventh Contingent, who belongs to Waimatc, Canterbury, wis accidentally .. d severely wounded on the right forearm. Alex. Mitchell, of the Seventh Contingent, who belongs to Pleasant Point, Canterbury, was dangerously ill of enteric fever at Mooi River on October 20th. JIET U KNIXG TROUPERS. Mr Scddon has received the following cablegram from Lord Kitchener:—“Pretoria, October 28th.—The ollieors and men of the Fourth and Fifth Contingents who wish to do so are returning to New Zealand."
